24-09-2021

The online jewellery sales by Christie’s New York ended yesterday with a total of around US$3.2 million. Ninety-one percent of the lots were sold. The auction has attracted bidders from 32 countries and regions; 20 percent of which were first-time registrants.

The top lot, a Harry Winston platinum ring set with an emerald-cut 5.03-carat D VS1 diamond accented with two tapered baguette-cut diamonds (photo 1) was sold over its high estimate for US$175,000. Another highlight was a pair of square emerald-cut diamond earrings of 3.13 and 3.01-carats which has realised US$137,500.

Birth stone for September, sapphire has achieved strong results at the auction. A platinum ring with a 12.32-carat octagonal step-cut sapphire and diamonds (photo 2) was sold for US$106,250. Another octagonal step-cut sapphire ring, of 7.33 carats, has fetched US$40,000, four times of its high estimate. (Photo courtesy: Christie's)
