Alrosa: robust diamond demand in April

14-5-2021

Alrosa sales of diamonds climbed 12 percent mom to US$401 million in April, including revenue from rough diamond of US$383 million, and proceeds from polished diamond sales of US$18 million.

During its digital auction from 1 to 22 of April, 142 lots weighing about 2,040 carats were sold to 27 attendees from around the world, garnered US$8.8 million. In response to client’s request, the miner hosted auctions for special size (+10.8 carats) roughs in major trading offices in Antwerp, Dubai, Moscow and Ramat Gan. Office in Moscow sold 237 roughs, the largest amounts among the four auctions. Next in the line was Dubai at 137 and 121 lots purchased by 22 companies in Antwerp.

“In April, demand for diamond jewellery in the key markets continued to remain sustainably robust. Rough diamonds’ stocks at the mid-stream remain modest, while the supply of the rough diamonds gradually moves to a deficit state as global diamond production capacities are structurally reduced,” the miner’s depute CEO Evgeny Agureev said.
