Pandora ditches mined diamond

5-5-2021

Pandora, the world’s biggest jeweller by volume, debuts its first collection using lab-grown diamond, Pandora Brilliance.

Pandora Brilliance contains rings, bangles, necklaces and earrings. All feature a lab-grown diamond ranging from 0.15 to 1 carat. The price will start at US$ 350. They will make their first appearances in the United Kingdom on 6 May, and other 7,000 points of sale in 2022.

According to Bloomberg, barely 50,000 pieces out of around 85 million items included mined diamonds last year. The move reflects customers awareness on environmental and societal impacts of their consumption. It plays a minor role in its effort to achieve carbon neutrality by 2025.

Pandora CEO Alexander Lacik said for millennials, in particular, the awareness of what a lab-created diamond is, is significantly higher than with the older generation, so it’s a matter of education as well. They are more concerned about sustainability aspects.
