No gem-set rings allowed for Starbucks baristas

Coffee bigname Starbucks has recently adopted a new policy that forbids store baristas and workers to wear some sorts of jewellery at work.

According to Komo News, based on FDA food safety guidelines, the new rules allow tattoos, nose studs, but no watches, bracelets or engagement rings with stones. Plain wedding bands without stones, necklaces under clothing are allowed.

“Starbucks new jewellery guidelines are based on the FDA Model Food Code that state and local jurisdictions follow,” a Starbucks spokesman told the news agency. “We’ve also been working with Registered Environmental Health Specialists who are former FDA health inspectors to ensure these changes align with food safety rules.”

Some employees of the coffee house started a petition online, asking the company to re-consider the new jewellery policy which has sparked off quite a discussion at social media.
