11-8-2020

Alrosa reveals its sales of rough and polished diamonds in July were US$35.8 million, dropped 79 percent yoy.

Sales for the first seven months of 2020 were US$1,027 million, including US$978 million of rough diamond and $49.0 million of polished. The miner hit a rock bottom in April totaled US$15.6 million. Alrosa deputy CEO Evgeny Agureev said the diamond value chain is challenging, especially the midstream. “We kept supporting with the unprecedented measures our long-term clients, offering them an opportunity to refrain from buying contracted volumes of rough in July,” he added.

Despite ‘extremely challenging market conditions’, Alrosa sees the market's interest in special size and large diamonds. In July, US$6.8 million worth of 70 rough diamonds were sold in Israel and Belgium.
