Christina Malle supports Pure Earth's Auction with pearl necklace

24-6-2020

Jewellery designer Christina Malle collaborates with Pure Earth to support their Pure Earth Pure Gold Jewelry Auction for the third year in a row.

A south sea pearl necklace set in 18K fairmined gold from her pearl capsule collection is donated to the event. As a member of Ethical Metalsmiths, the materials Malle applied in jewellery pay miners and cutters a fair wage, no child and forced labour and environmental impact is minimised. The pearl is sourced from pearl farms in Australia. The gold is recycled or traceable to its original source and abandoned the use of toxic mercury for extraction.

“Pollution knows no borders. When artisanal gold miners in Indonesia, Peru or Ghana use mercury to extract gold, they are not just poisoning themselves, their families, and their environment. Everyone is affected because mercury moves through the atmosphere, dropping into oceans and rivers worldwide. That is why pregnant women are often advised not to eat too much fish and sushi. Pollution is a global public health crisis, like the pandemic,” she shared the reason behind her business practice.
