Italian jeweller Valobra Master Jewelers created the Defeating the Coronavirus pin salutes front-line health care workers who have fought with the coronavirus.
Franco Valobra, the fourth generation of the Valobra Master Jewelers said: “I had a clear image of the symbol of medicine (the caduceus, a commonly used symbol), stabbing through the coronavirus, but also clearly towering over and overpowering it. The ratios needed to be better than 2:1 — the caduceus being at least twice as big as the virus.”
The pin is made from sterling silver and plated with 18-karat gold. On the tap of herald's wand mounted a round garnet as a symbol of healing and crisis resolution.
The jeweller asks people to fill in form with a brief explanation of contribution to nominate those who deserve to receive the pin online. To date, over 500 have been shipped worldwide as a gift. First five of them were shipped to the Coronavirus Task Force at the White House.
