Alrosa sees tested mine prolific

26-3-2019

Alrosa ran a test to examine the quantity, colour features, grade and per-carat price of the Zapolyarnaya pipe of its Verkhne-Munskoye deposit from 11to 15 March.

239 diamonds larger than eight carats each were yielded from 100,000 tons of ore during the five-day-test. They were sent to its sorting centre for assessment afterwards. Two of the largest gem-quality rough recovered weighing 51.15 and 70.67 carats. Zapolyarnaya has the potential to become one of the company’s richest in large diamonds deposits.

The Verkhne-Munskoye mine was launched officially in October. There are four kimberlite pipes at the moment. Previous testing at the other portions of the mine also unearthed large roughs. The mine is expected to bring about 1.8 million carats of roughs per year and has a life span of over 20 years.
