Timepieces with ticking animals

21-3-2019

Graff unveils the GyroGraff Endangered Species, a five-timepiece-collection the British jeweller describes as one of the most ambitious projects ever by its watchmakers.

Each dial depicted a diamond and precious metals marquetrie of endangered and even critically endangered creatures listed by the World Wildlife Fund. Elephant, gorilla, panda, tiger and rhino were put under the spotlight. All GyroGraff signature double-axis tourbillon between 6 and 7 o’clock were individually hand-set, the 3-D white gold moon phase indicator at 10 o’clock, and the power reserve indicator at 1 o’clock. Each watch takes over 200 hours to craft.

Four of them will debut at Baselworld. The rhino piece will not launch until after the show. Each watch costs £900,000.
