UN asks KP to strengthen policies

United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has enacted a resolution abide by the appeal of the Kimberley Process (KP) policy changes proposed by the World Diamond Council (WDC) president Stephane Fischler with all 193 UNGA members nodded their heads. The policy expands its definition of conflict diamonds, helps to enhance effectiveness and ensure the contribution to international peace and security as well as the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals.

 

The representative of the European Union said the KP has played an active role in stopping the trade of conflict diamonds and has made differences between life and death and war and peace for several countries. The delegate Botswana said since the establishment of the Process, conflict diamonds in global trade had dropped from 15 percent to less than one percent.
