New virus affects HK’s major events

In response to the spread of the new coronavirus in Hong Kong, the world’s largest jewellery shows and the AEC summit in March are postponed to May.

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) announced on 5 February 2020 the change of schedule for its March jewellery shows to May.

According to the new plan, the Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show 2020 originally scheduled for 2-6 March at AsiaWorld-Expo and the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show 2020 originally scheduled for 4-8 March at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre will now concurrently be held 18-21 May 2020 at AsiaWorld-Expo.

HKTDC said the move is to follow the measure taken by the Hong Kong government against the spread of the novel coronavirus. And the decision was made after consultation with representatives of the jewellery industry.

Meanwhile, HKTDC will monitor the situation closely and will provide details of the rescheduling arrangements to exhibitors and buyers. For enquiries, call HKTDC customer service hotline at (852) 1830 668.
The Hong Kong Jewellery & Jade Manufacturers Association (HKJJA) said on 6 February that its 9th AEC Gems & Jewelry Presidents’ Summit 2020 will also be put off for the same reason to match with HKTDC’s new show schedule.

The summit, originally scheduled for 3 March 2020 thought to capitalise on the huge traffic drawn from HKTDC’s twin shows, is also postponed accordingly.

HKJJA does not provide a fixed schedule yet. It says it will be in touch with all parties involved for follow-up arrangements and updated information.
