Lydia Courteille

AN antique jewellery collector, gemmologist, scientist and traveler, Lydia Courteille created her namesake jewellery brand in 1987. Over the years she has been creating storytelling pieces featuring stunning gemstones and daring designs that become her signature style. The uniqueness of the Lydia Courteille jewellery makes the Parisian brand a common scene on movies like ‘Midnight in Paris’, on commercials including Yves Saint Laurent’s Opium perfume, on runways for Prada and others, as well as on stars and celebrities like Karl Lagerfeld who dubbed Courteille “a genius for making jewellery”.

“Baroque, audacious, colourful and precious” are the adjectives Courteille used to describe her design style. “Lydia Courteille is an exclusive brand for people who understand art in jewellery. All about culture, emotion and creation, my jewellery collections created under unusual themes let people discover stories,” she told Hong Kong Jewellery.

Collaborating with ateliers in France, Thailand and China, the designer takes care of the design work all by herself. “We work with one workshop or the other depending on their skills and specialities,” noted Courteille.

Lydia Courteille jewellery is well-adored by Hollywood A-listers. “Celebrities come by themselves. And we used to work with a PR agency in the United States for two years,” said the designer when addressing the natural charm of her whimsical creations.

The brand is currently partnering with upscale jewellery boutiques and department stores across Asia, Europe and the States. For the presence in Greater China, she said: “We have been at Lane Crawford for 10 years now. We used to be at Joyce Boutique. We have some plans to be in other parts of China but not sure yet. I refused some collaborations with big brands. But we never know‭...‬I’m ready for adventure with trustable people.”

Holding trunk shows is one of the major marketing and networking initiatives for the brand. “We plan to organise some private trunk shows in China, Belgium, Beirut, Dallas and London,” she added.
