HK-Austrian collaboration on eco-jewel

27 June 2017

Hong Kong-based ethical jewellery brand niin has recently collaborated with Austrian jewellery house Aenea to launch an eco-friendly fine jewellery collection for a good cause.

Inspired by the colours and forms of aquatic life, the organic-form Alaria Collection comes with a necklace, earrings, a cuff bracelet and rings handcrafted in palladium with conflict-free diamonds and rainbow moonstones which bring about the hues of the sea. Some pieces are transformable. For examples, earrings can be worn in three ways, and a necklace is designed with a detachable pendant.

Aenea founder and creative director HRH Prince Costan Eghiazarian told Hong Kong Jewellery at a recent media preview session that the debut collaboration gave Jeanine Hsu, founder and creative director of niin, full powers to design. He said the two families are old acquaintances.

“Her way of sharpening her ideas and how her work has evolved over the years into such a distinct style simply made me want to work with her,” he said in an interview.

The collection pieces are available at HK$10,000 to $242,700 (US$1,300 to 31,000). Five percent of the sales will be donated to the Hong Kong Adventists Hospital Foundation.

“Aenea is ultimately devoted to the celebration of life and love, which is not far from the ideals of niin, which predominantly respects nature,” said Hsu. “We believe in spreading a positive message to the world.”

Aenea, meaning ‘to praise’ in Greek, was established in 2013 in Salzburg, Austria by Costan Eghiazarian. Specialised in fine jewellery, Aenea sells through the retail outlets in Salzburg and Brussel in Belgium. It also partners up with an online store based in UK.

Launched by Jeanine Hsu in 2005, niin is renowned for making eco-chic fine jewellery with natural materials in an environmentally-responsible way. She has recently won the 2017 Woman of Hope - Eco-Warrior Award for the green values she has created.
