Bold and chic

Think of ‘Bochic Women’ and a number of A-list Hollywood actresses and celebrities will probably spring to mind, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lopez, Michelle Obama, to name a few.

Independent, confident, stylish, adventurous and zestful are among the personalities a Bochic woman embraces, says David Joseph, owner-cum-designer of Bochic. Since inception in 2004, the New York-based fine jewellery label has caught red carpet stalwarts’ attention with its distinctive designs – vintage feel with a modern twist. “Orient meets Middle Eastern traditions with a modern integration,” he described his design essence to Hong Kong Jewellery.

“Our signature design is bold, large, sophisticated, with attention to defined details. The Mammoth ivory earrings, for instance, feature hand-carved roses on ivory and set with diamonds and rubies,” he added.

Ring styles have never been more extravagant than these in this season. Double- (or even multi-) finger rings, knuckle rings, ring-to-wrist pieces…are tailored for those who are meant to impress. Bochic’s 2014 ring collection Conquistador draws inspirations from Art Nouveau style and Antoni Gaudi’s architecture. Set with 18-karat black gold in diamonds and precious stones, Conquistador rings come in single- or double-shank, converting your finger to a living art piece.

Following its remarkable success in America, Eastern Europe and the Middle East, Bochic is reaching out to the Asian shoppers who thirst for one-of-a-kind fine jewellery. David Joseph is very much aware of the ultra-affluent market in China. He told Hong Kong Jewellery at a private preview in Hong Kong in March: “There is a huge demand for high-end luxury products and that will transition with time into more of a niche, specialized market looking for individuality.”

He sees a surge in body jewellery for this year. “Jewellery is now on different parts of the body. Designers are looking to express themselves in design so we can see more designers taking risks pushing the envelopes and barriers to directions that have never been explored,” he said. Orchid, chili red, black and turquoise are the colours he picked for 2014.
