Christie’s Hong Kong Jewellery Auction Fetched $46M

Christies Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels auction achieved a total of HK$359,380,860 (US$46,222,488) on 28 November, with solid sell-through rates of 86 percent by lot and 82 percent by value and drew global participation from 21 countries across three continents.

A rivière diamond necklace was the top seller at the auction, bringing in $5.9 million. The sale price for the piece, which features 52 round brilliant-cut, D-flawless and internally flawless diamonds weighing a total of 104.84 carats, was within estimates. In total, fifty percent of the jewels on offer exceeding their high estimates, according to Christies.

The auction also included a collection of jewels from Hong Kong actress Rosamund Kwan, which fetched a combined total of HK$86,072,220/$11,070,351, sold lots achieved 114 percent over low estimate.

The two leading lots from that sale saw heavily competitive bidding in the sale room and via telephone taking over 15 minutes, and eventually selling to the same private collector, Christies said. The top item in the group was a necklace featuring a pear brilliant-cut, 22.18-carat, D-color, VVS1-clarity diamond pendant with rubies and pink diamonds, which went for $2.1 million, within estimates.

Vickie Sek, Chairman, Jewellery, Asia Pacific, commented: Throughout 2022 we have continued to witness the resilience of Hong Kong as a major centre for art and luxury in Asia. We were very happy to welcome so many of our collectors and colleagues back into our sale room after a few years and look forward to Hong Kong continuing to thrive.

It was an honour to present the collection of legendary Hong Kong actress Rosamund Kwan – her impeccably curated collection drew international interest as reflected in the results, further cementing Christies success in offering the most prestigious single-owner collections.”
