Visualise your pearl vibe

When you hear the word pearl, a white pearl bead heirloom necklace passed down from your mother’s grandmother for special occasions only, might spring into your mind. Be that as it may, jewellery featuring this lustrous gemstone can be a trendy everyday accessory.

Hong Kong-based brand Arao vows to alter the age and occasion stereotyping on pearl jewellery. Its founder Mirabel Rosar shared her perspective on pearl jewellery: “I know the most precious pieces of jewellery are those that are actually worn, not locked up in vaults. We can choose to be grateful each day luxuries – a comfortable bed, the warmth of sunshine in the morning, fresh air, and of course, a pair of pearl earrings.” She added the more you wear them, if truth be told, the brighter they shine. The remark on pearl evidently echoes the vision of the brand, to encourage women to shine their light every day.

Shine on

As Sonya Parker once said: “Fitting in allows you to blend in with everyone else, but being different allows you to be yourself, to be unique and to be more creative.” The closer we get to being who we are meant to be, the brighter we shine. Arao coins the Pearl Lab to offer its customers a virtual space to just be themselves and unleash their creativity. Just in four steps, customers can build their own necklaces, drop earrings and bracelets with four hue options of baroque South Sea pearls available to be the centre stone.

Despite the global trend moving on to organic asymmetric and artistic shapes, perfectly round pearls are still the mainstream for women in Hong Kong. Based on the observation of the marketing veteran, people in this world's premier international financial hub are looking for distinguishing pearl jewellery designs that evolve with their lifestyles and grow with them in various stages of their lives. Arao, which is dedicated to baroque pearls jewellery is here to meet the demand. Customers can pick a birthstone to goes with the one-of-a-kind centre stone. All gemstones are cut and polished by hand and each carries a unique meaning and blessing. Some months have as many as three birthstones to choose from. Stepping into September, it is the time for Virgos to reward themselves for sailing halfway through the year 2021. Orange sapphire is a go-for option to pair with a brown pearl for a businesswoman, who wants to express herself effectively and boost her creativity. Arao will give life to the creator’s embrace-your-individuality understated reminder exclusively for Hong Kong women at the moment. Rosar said the Pearl Lab initiative, on the other, wants to engage customers in collaborative jewellery creating experience and recall days when women would visit their adored jeweller to brainstorm a piece of their dreams.

Protect the planet with pearls
As a modern woman who is used to surf-and-bond with her husband and spend time in solitude hiking, outdoor activities, Rosar nurtures her commitment towards environmental protection and sustainability.

More than half of the jewellery consumers are unaware that cultured pearls are sustainable, according to a recently released market research co-conducted by the Cultured Pearl Association of America (CPAA) and MVI Marketing LLC. Arao says its golden South Sea pearls are ethically sourced from a sustainable pearl farm in Palawan of the Philippines, the founder’s home country. To take one step further to be more eco-friendly, the brand uses jewellery box made of recycled cartons and paper. Not only sustainability, Arao also aims to sustain communities in the Philippines. One percent proceeds from sales will be donated to the Philippines Foundation’s (TPF) education project for five million youths on the restoration of coral reefs and mangroves in the country.

In Hong Kong, Arao’s jewellery pieces will be available in the soon-to-open The Chaless Spa nested approximately in Hollywood Road in Central, where customers could touch and interact with the lustrous creations.
