Basel bounces back with new luxury fair

Seven years after the collapse of Baselworld, a major new international jewellery and timepiece event is set to breathe fresh life into the Swiss city. Informa Markets, the organiser of Hong Kong's flagship jewellery fair, has joined forces with MCH Group, the veteran host behind Art Basel, to launch the Basilia Jewellery & Watch Fair in April 2027.

The four-day inaugural event will host over 400 exhibitors in Hall 2 of Messe Basel, aiming to bridge accessible B2B sourcing with the ultra-luxury segment. Promoted as a "city" rather than a traditional exhibition, the fair will feature themed, immersive "neighbourhoods" such as Diamond Districts and a Swiss District.

The organisers intend for Basilia to plug a crucial gap in the European market by matching structural Asian supply with European demand at scale. Jewellery will make up 50 percent of the exhibits, with watches and gemstones accounting for 25 percent each.

Crucially, the show is designed to complement Geneva’s Watches & Wonders, with its professional days expected to overlap and commence just as Geneva's wrap up. Local hoteliers and authorities have pledged support to guarantee affordable accommodation capacity, signaling Basel’s long-awaited return to the global luxury trade calendar.
