The Natural Diamond Council (NDC) has unveiled its Natural Diamond Trends: A 2025 Overview, revealing steady growth and enduring romance in the diamond market. Drawing on more than four million jewellery transactions across 2,500 specialist jewellers in the United States, the report highlights that natural diamond sales rose by 2.1 percent last year, while the average price surged by 10 percent.
Valentine’s Day remains one of the brightest moments for jewellers, representing around 7 percent of annual US natural diamond demand. Together with Mother’s Day and the Holiday Season, these key gift occasions accounted for nearly half of all yearly sales. In the week leading up to Valentine’s Day, the average total carat weight sold was 0.59, with round brilliants continuing to dominate and non-bridal rings leading purchases—suggesting that sentimental gifting and self-purchases now go hand in hand.
Engagement jewellery also remains vital, with 47 percent of couples reportedly getting engaged between November and February. The marquise cut showed notable 12 percent year-on-year growth, driven by celebrity influence and a taste for elongated, personalised styles.
According to NDC CEO Amber Pepper, the surge among Gen Z and Millennials underscores a desire for authenticity and self-expression. “In a world of replication, emotion is what makes natural diamonds truly irreplaceable,” she said. (Photo courtesy: NDC)
