Rio Tinto has unveiled the final edition of its “Beyond Rare” tender, a 52-lot showcase titled “Into the Light” that closes a seminal chapter in coloured-diamond history. Totalling 45.44 carats, the collection unites the last legacy Argyle pink, red and violet diamonds with exceptional whites and a vivid yellow from Canada’s Diavik mine, which is slated to cease production in 2026.
Headline highlights include six “Masterpieces” alongside 39 single stones and seven curated sets. From Argyle’s now-closed mine in Western Australia come one GIA fancy red, 12 GIA fancy violet, and 76 GIA fancy pink, purple‑pink and purplish pink diamonds — among the final releases of their kind. Diavik contributes two D‑colour, flawless whites — a 5.11-carat emerald cut and a 3.02-carat pear shape, fashioned from the same rough — together with a 6.12-carat fancy vivid yellow.
Patrick Coppens, Rio Tinto’s general manager of sales and marketing for diamonds, called the tender a tribute to two “extraordinarily beautiful places on earth”, noting no other miner holds such breadth of colour and form. The lots will tour Hong Kong, Australia and Antwerp, with bids closing on 20 October 2025. Following robust results last year, demand from top jewellers, collectors and connoisseurs is expected to be intense for these provenance-rich stones. (Photo courtesy: Rio Tinto)
