GIA appoints Sriram Natarajan as laboratory operations chief

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has announced the appointment of Sriram Ram Natarajan as the new senior vice president of laboratory operations. Natarajan, who previously served as managing director of GIA India, officially began his new role in early August, based at the institute's headquarters in Carlsbad, California.

In his capacity, Natarajan will oversee the vision and direction of GIA's laboratory operations, which encompass diamond grading and jewellery services. Pritesh Patel, GIA’s president and CEO, praised Natarajan as a "dynamic leader" whose experience and insight will be crucial as the organisation continues to innovate and enhance its laboratory offerings.

Natarajan joined GIA in 2017 as vice president of laboratory operations in India, where he played a vital role in education and laboratory activities. With over three decades of international operational and leadership experience, he is poised to drive GIA's mission forward.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Natarajan stated, "It is an honour to take on responsibility for overseeing GIA’s gemological laboratories. I look forward to collaborating with our teams and clients to uphold GIA’s standards of excellence." A new managing director for GIA India is expected to be appointed in the coming months.
