14-07-2020

Christie’s Hong Kong July 2020 auctions finished yesterday with a total of HK$1.8 billion or US$239 million. Thirteen world auction records were set across all categories, including unique two Patek Philippe watches.

Eighty-eight percent of all lots offered were sold. Robust Asian participation, high level of digital engagement and the involvement of millennial buyers marked the success of the sales.

At the important watch session, an important titanium automatic minute repeating annual calendar watch (photo 1), ref 5033, manufactured in 2003 was sold for HK$15,125,000, setting the auction record for the reference. From the same brand, a rare 18-karat gold minute repeating watch (photo 2) ref 2524/1 also set the auction record for the reference at HK$6,125,000.

A 12.11-carat fancy intense blue IF diamond ring (photo 3) achieved HK$122.4 million at the magnificent jewels sale which totalled HK$306.6 million, 12 times over its pre-sale low estimate. A ruby and diamond pendant necklace by Edmond Chin of Etcetera (photo 4) featured a 19.53-carat Burmese star ruby realised HK$20.5 million.

The July auctions held 8-13 comprised Chinese modern and contemporary paintings, Chinese classical paintings and calligraphy, Chinese ceramics, jewellery, modern and contemporary art, handbags and accessories, wines and spirits, and watches.
