Unique ruby ring tops Sotheby’s sale

04-10-2017

The jewellery sale held by Sotheby’s Hong Kong on 3 October 2017 fetched a total of HK$504,057,500. A rare Bhagat platinum ring (photo 1) featuring a 13.26-carat oval Burmese ‘pigeon blood’ ruby was sold for HK$81,662,500, making it the top lot.

The special setting arrangement of the stones add a wow factor to the ruby ring. Besides the two rose-cut diamonds which embellish both sides of the ring, the graduated open sprung hoop is set with calibrated faceted diamond beads and highlighted by two ruby bead terminals. The diamonds are 10.50 carats in total.

Sold for HK$38,912,500, a very fine brilliant-cut, D colour, flawless, type IIa diamond weighing 31.98 carats (photo 2) claimed the second top lot position, which was followed by a pair of pear-shaped, D-colour diamonds of 12.36 and 12.00 carats, flawless and internally flawless respectively. The pair achieved HK$22,300,000.

Top quality fei cui jewellery has attracted considerable attention at the sale. A translucent fei cui bangle and a fei cui hoop pendant with intense emerald green colour were sold for HK$16,900,000 and HK$15,460,000 respectively.

A pre-show highlight, Cartier’s art deco gem-set and diamond bracelet Tutti-Frutti (photo 3) fetch HK$13,900,000.
