Gübelin’s jewels on loan to Swiss museum

15 June 2017

Lucerne-based Gübelin has lent jewellery, gemstones and microphotographs to the National Museum Zurich for an exhibition on jewellery and art during 19-22 October 2017.

Titled ‘Jewellery: Materials Craft Art’, the exhibition presents jewellery from different perspectives in three areas, namely materials, the social function of jewellery for its wearers, and innovations in Jewellery in the 20th century.

For the ‘materials’ section, Gübelin will provide a selection of rubies, emeralds, diamonds, tourmalines, spinels, topazes, garnet, aquamarines and quartzes. To reveal the fascinating internal structures of gemstones, the Gübelin Gem Lab will share with the visitors the microphotographs from Eduard Josef Gübelin that unfolds the inner beauty of gemstones. Gübelin’s jewellery pieces between the late 1940s to the early 1980s will be shown in the section paying tribute to Swiss jewellery making in the 20th century.

According to Gübelin, the involvement with art and culture is in accord with their philosophy of “Deeply Inspired” which stands for the combination of beauty and knowledge and is shared by the entire company. (Photo courtesy: Gübelin)
