Yellows Showed Highest Increase in Q3 Fancy-Colour Price Index

The Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF) announced the results of the Fancy Color Diamond Index (FCDI) for the third quarter of 2022. After an increase of 0.8 percent in Q2 2022, the average price of all colours and sizes of fancy colour diamonds climbed by 1.0 percent in Q3 2022, driven by gains in all hue segments, with yellows seeing the strongest growth.

According to FCRF, this climb was in contrast to the trend in white diamonds, which declined by 6.7 percent. Fancy-vivids across all colour categories presented the highest increase (1.8 percent), with fancy vivid 8 carats demonstrating a rise of 3.6 percent, led by fancy vivid pink 8 carats (5.5 percent). In the top spot for yellows were 8-carat, fancy-vivid diamonds, gaining 4 percent, while 2-carat stones had the highest climb for fancy-vivid blues, up 2.6 percent.

Overall, in the last 12 months, the yellow segment in all sizes and saturations rose by 3.4 percent on average, blues rose by 1.8 percent, and pinks by 3.7 percent.

The FCDI is published by the non-profit FCRF, tracking pricing data for yellow, pink, and blue fancy colour diamonds in the major global trading centres – Hong Kong, New York, Geneva, and Tel Aviv.
