New event promotes HK’s jade culture

07-05-2021

In a bid to foster sustainable development and the inheritance of exquisite craftsmanship of the local jewellery industry, Loupe has collaborated with the Hong Kong Jade Association (HKJA) to launch a jade exhibition which also serves as part of Loupe’s 3rd anniversary celebration. A live broadcast of the grand opening of the exhibition was held yesterday at PMQ, Central.

Titled ‘The Feast of Jade’, the exhibition highlights a number of magnificent jade carving masterpieces by HKJA’s president Law Chi Kwong. A huge piece of carving in the form of roasted pork comes as the centre piece of the show. It never fails to amaze people with the vividly recreation of the crispy skin, the tender layers beneath, the texture and the colours of the succulent delicacy. Other must-see exhibits include jade dumplings, peanuts, walnuts, goji berries, etc. If they are not kept inside the showcases, it might take you a moment to realise their inedible nature.

The inauguration event was well-attended by local jewellery association representatives, industry friends, and designers from Loupe. To appreciate jade from a new-generation perspective and promote jade craftsmanship, Loupe has invited four designers-in-residency namely Chan Wing Long, Glori Tsui, Janus Ng and Sinny Lam to incorporate jade in their new designs which are also on display at the exhibition.

‘The Feast of Jade’ is on until 31 May 2021 at Loupe, PMQ.
