RJC to build standard for lab-grown

Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) expects to introduce its first-ever guideline for lab-grown diamonds and gemstones by June 2022.

 

At the moment, the standard lab-grown stones as laboratory-grown material (LGM). According to the council, the standard will include “social, environmental, and business integrity requirements” and require full disclosure of any lab-grown material in its members’ products.

 

“Many of our members are selling both natural and lab-grown products. They want a credible solution, and they want the assurance that it is a robust standard,” Iris Van der Veken, executive director of RJC noted. The consumer-facing act is in a bid to shows RJC commitment to ensure that all jewellery is responsibly sourced, manufactured and marketed for the sake of consumer confidence.
