Organisations demand to put back HK fair

22-8-2019

Trade representative of the world’s largest diamond trading hubs, Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) and Israel Diamond Institute (IDI) have jointly written a letter to the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair’s organiser, Informa to postpone the fair scheduled from 16-20 September at the AsiaWorld-Expo and 18-22 September at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. A majority of the exhibitors have expressed their concern on ongoing social unrest triggered by the controversial extradition bill.

It is stated that about 40 percent exhibitors are demanding to cancel the participation regardless of whether the situation improves. The representatives suggest Informa provide financial compensation in form of discount or refund to the exhibitors.

Informa representative believes the situation will calm down and said: “We recognise the challenges we face given the recent public incidents in Hong Kong, but rest assured we have prepared – and are constantly updating and adjusting – a comprehensive contingency plan in partnership and in close co-ordination with all industry stakeholders.”
