WDC Kaninda on top influential African women

17-7-2019

The May edition of Forbes Afrique, the African French version of Forbes has listed Marie-Chantal Kaninda (pictured), the executive director of the World Diamond Council (WDC) as one of Africa’s 100 most influential women.

She is ranked number 14 on the list. Forbes Afrique described Kaninda’s work “to further the interests of individuals and communities involved in Africa’s mining sector.” Stephane Fischler, WDC president commented: “Throughout her long career, she has worked to improve the lives of Africa’s disadvantaged people, be they women, artisanal miners, or individuals impacted by ongoing violence. Her belief that a country’s natural resources can fuel the development of all its people essentially embodies what we strive for in the WDC.”

Kanida is a native of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). She has served as WDC Executive Director since 2017 after she stepped down as chief adviser for external affairs in Africa at Rio Tinto. Prior to the Rio Tinto’s position, she served in external affairs roles for other international mining companies such as De Beers.
