BKK fair to promote Thai magic hands

Themed “Magic Hands”, the 63rd Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair (BGJF) will be held 20-24 February 2019 at Challenger Hall 1-3, Impact Muang Thong Thani, Bangkok, Thailand.

The show will present a wide array of gold, silver and gem-set jewellery besides gemstones and equipment. Creative jewellery from up-and-coming designers as well as SMEs will also be shown.

Special zones including ‘The New Faces’ featuring over 120 SMEs exhibitors from across the country, ‘The Jewellers’, ‘Innovation and Design Showcase’ and ‘Design Bazaar’ are home to innovative and eye-capturing jewellery designs.

The “Magic Hands” initiative aims to gain international recognition for the Thai gems and jewellery industry, which is the country’s third highest export earnings. The campaign artworks reiterate strengths of Thailand’s gems and jewellery industry, connecting the spirit of jewellery making to the traditional way of life and advanced skills of making intricate creations. It is synchronisation of hands and mind of Thai artisans that give life to objects, a distinctive feature found in Thai arts from fruit carving, mural painting to high jewellery making, according to the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), show organiser.

“For many decades, Thailand has been well recognised all over the world as a manufacturer of quality jewellery with beautiful designs and intricate craftsmanship. Over the years, stakeholders in the gems and jewellery industry, from craftspeople, designers, manufactures, and traders, have constantly developed their skills while seeking innovation that will uplift the industry to new heights. Today, I would rate Thai-made jewellery as one of the leading products from the country which has brought much pride and joy to all Thais,” said Banjongjitt Angsusingh, DITP director general, Ministry of Commerce.

In 2017, Thailand was among world’s top 10 gems and jewellery exporters in terms of volume, with total export of US$12 billion. The country is an expanding jewellery hub recognised for the excellent quality of manufacture and design in gemstones and jewellery, says DITP. (Photo courtesy: DITP)
