Christie’s HK magnificent jewels

On 28 November 2017 Christie’s Hong Kong held its magnificent jewels auction where ‘The Pink Promise’ ring set with a 14.93-carat fancy vivid pink VVS1 type IIA diamond fetched HK$250 million (US$32 million), making it the most expensive jewellery sold by Christie’s in Asia. The sale fetched a total of HK$731 million.

Vickie Sek, deputy chairman and director of jewellery asia, said: “At US$2.15m, The Pink Promise matched the world record price per carat for a pink diamond that was last set at Christie’s Hong Kong in 2009. The fact that this time around it was for a diamond three times larger, speaks to the evolution of the market and collectors appetite at the highest level.”

Claimed the second highest price was a fei cui bead, ruby and diamond necklace which realised HK$96 million. Another pink highlight, an 8.80-carat fancy intense pink VVS 1 type IIA diamond ring, was sold for HK$75 million. The 28.04-carat paparadscha sapphire and diamond ring, also a pre-show highlight, achieved HK$19 million. The Wallace Chan collection was all sold at the auction.
